Gold, silver, crude oil, natural gas and base metal futures in India trade on MCX (Multi Commodity Exchange of India Limited), the country's largest commodity derivatives exchange, based at Exchange Square in Andheri East, Mumbai.

Traders do not log in to MCX itself. Orders go through a broker's app, and MCX runs the trading platform behind it in a morning session and an evening session that closes near midnight. When the exchange has trouble, every broker's commodity segment is hit together.

Check the session timing MCX trades 9 AM to 5 PM and 5 PM to 11.30 or 11.55 PM. Orders outside these times are rejected.
Check the holiday list On many holidays only the evening session opens.

Check the status card on this page and the reports from traders. If people on many brokers report frozen prices or rejected orders together, MCX itself has a problem. If only your broker's app fails while others trade, the fault is with the broker.

First check the time and date. MCX trades in a morning and an evening session, and on some holidays only one session opens. Outside those hours, orders are rejected even though nothing is broken. If it is a trading hour and prices are not moving across brokers, that points to a problem at the exchange.

Check MCX's Trading Holidays page. In 2026, both sessions stay shut on 2 October and 25 December. On many other holidays, such as Dussehra on 20 October and Guru Nanak Jayanti on 24 November, the morning session is shut but the evening session opens. Muhurat trading is on Sunday, 8 November 2026.
