This Privacy Policy explains how SiteDownStatus ("we", "us", "our") collects, uses, shares and protects information when you use this website. By using this site, you agree to the practices described here.

We have tried to keep this policy plain and readable. If anything is unclear, you can reach us through our Contact page.

1. Who we are

SiteDownStatus is an independent, India-first outage checker and helpline directory. We are operated by an independent team of ATHOD TECH PVT LTD, Jaipur, India. We are not affiliated with any of the services, apps, banks or government bodies listed on this site.

For any privacy question, or to exercise your rights under this policy, you can contact us.

2. Information we collect

We try to collect as little as possible. Most of the site works without you signing in or giving us any personal information at all.

a) Information you give us

  • Outage reports. When you report a problem with a service, we record the problem type you selected and the time. We do not ask for your name.

  • Notes and name. If you choose to add a note to a report, we store the text of that note. If you add an optional name, we store it; if you leave it blank, your note appears under a generic label such as "Guest". Notes may be displayed publicly on the site next to the related report. Please do not include personal details in a note. We filter out contact details such as phone numbers, links, and email addresses, and we don't publish them, but you should still avoid sharing anything private, as notes may be shown to others.

  • "Working for me" and "did this number work" feedback. We record that a confirmation was made, and the time.

  • Alerts. If you ask for alerts about a service, we store what's needed to send them: your email address (for email alerts), your Telegram chat ID (for Telegram alerts), or the push address your browser gives us (for browser notifications). We also store which services you follow, the alerts you chose, and a record of the alerts we sent.

  • Contact form. If you write to us, we receive the email address and the message you send.

b) Information collected automatically

  • Technical and usage data. Like most websites, our servers automatically log information such as your IP address, browser type, device and operating system, the pages you visit, and referring pages. This helps us keep the site secure, prevent abuse, and understand what is being used.

  • Approximate location. From your IP address we may derive an approximate region (for example, a city or state) so that outage reports can be shown at an area level. We do not collect precise GPS location.

  • Cookies and local storage. We use a small number of cookies and browser local storage to make the site work and to remember basic preferences. See Section 6.

  • Email open and click tracking. Our alert emails may record whether an email was opened or a link was clicked, to help us check that alerts are being delivered.

(c) Websites you check

  • When you use the website down checker, we record the address you checked and its result. We also keep a count of how often each website is checked, which helps us decide which sites to add to our tracked list. None of this is linked to you. Your browser also stores your recent checks on your device so you can run them again; you can clear them at any time with “Clear”.

3. How we use your information

We use the information described above to:

  • show live outage status and area-level report activity;

  • run the website checks you ask for;

  • send you the alerts you asked for, and let you manage or stop them;

  • reply to your messages and process corrections or requests;

  • keep the site secure, detect and prevent abuse, spam and fraud;

  • measure and improve how the site performs; and

  • comply with applicable law.

We do not sell your personal information.

4. Legal basis and your consent

We process your personal data with your consent (for example, when you sign up for alerts or send us a message), or where the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 allows it without consent, such as when you give us information for a specific purpose, or to comply with the law. Where we rely on your consent, you can withdraw it at any time as described in Section 8. Withdrawing consent doesn’t affect processing that happened before.

5. How we share information

We do not sell your personal data. We share information only in these limited situations:

  • Service providers. We use service providers who host the site, deliver content and email, protect our forms from automated spam, and run website checks from different locations on our behalf. When you check a website, its address is sent to these providers so the check can run. We do not send anything that identifies you. Some of this processing happens on servers outside India. They process data only on our instructions. Browser notifications are delivered through your browser's push service, and Telegram alerts through Telegram.

  • Analytics and advertising partners. If and when we show advertising, third parties such as ad networks may use cookies to serve and measure ads. See Section 7.

  • Legal reasons. We may disclose information if required by law, court order, or a valid request from a public authority, or to protect our rights, users, or the security of the site.

6. Cookies and local storage

We use cookies and browser local storage for a few purposes: to keep the site functioning, to remember simple preferences, to keep your session secure, and, where enabled, to measure usage and serve ads. You can control or delete cookies through your browser settings. Some basic cookies are needed for the site to work, and blocking them may affect certain features. Local storage also keeps your recent website checks on your device. They never leave your browser.

  • Alerts on this browser. When you set up alerts, we store a random identifier on this browser so you can manage your alerts here without signing in. It’s a random code. It doesn’t contain your email address or any other details about you; it’s used only for alerts, and it lasts 12 months. We also keep a small note in your browser's local storage so status pages can show whether your alerts are on. sds_alerts (cookie): remembers the alerts you set up on this browser. Lasts 12 months. sds_alerts_hint (local storage): shows whether your alerts are on. Kept until you clear it.

7. Advertising

We may display advertising on some pages of this site to support our work, and this may include Google AdSense. Advertising partners, which may include Google and its partners, may use cookies and similar technologies to show ads based on your visits to this and other sites.

You can read how Google uses information from sites that use its services at Google's advertising policy, and you can review or change your ad-personalisation settings at Google Ad Settings.

Where required, we will ask for your consent before such advertising cookies are set, and we manage that consent through a Consent Management Platform (CMP). You can change or withdraw your consent at any time using the privacy or consent option provided on the page, and you can also manage personalised advertising through the settings your ad providers offer, and through your browser. We do not place advertising on our home page or on our static information pages.

Some links on this site may be affiliate links. If you follow one and make a purchase, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Affiliate links appear only where relevant, and are treated as advertising.

8. Your rights

Subject to applicable Indian law, including the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, you have the right to:

  • ask what personal data we hold about you and request access to it;

  • ask us to correct information that is wrong or out of date;

  • ask us to delete your personal data, for example your alert subscription;

  • withdraw consent you have given; and

  • raise a grievance about how we handle your data.

To exercise any of these, write to us at hello[a]sitedownstatus.in. We will respond within the time required by applicable law. You can also stop alerts yourself at any time: use the “Stop” link at the bottom of any alert email, go to the page on a browser where you set them up, send /stopall to our Telegram bot, or use the “Stop alerts” button on a browser notification, where your browser shows one.

9. Data retention

We keep personal information only for as long as it is needed for the purposes described in this policy, or as required by law. Technical logs are kept for up to 90 days for security, abuse prevention and legal requirements, and then deleted. We keep published notes as part of the site's public report history; you can ask us to remove a note you submitted by contacting us. Alert data is kept while your alerts are active. When you stop all alerts, we delete your chat ID or push address straight away. If you sign up for email alerts but don’t confirm, we delete your email address after 48 hours. Once you stop all your email alerts, we delete your email address within about 30 days. Records of sent alerts are deleted after 90 days.

10. Security

We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your information against loss, misuse and unauthorised access. No method of transmission or storage over the internet is fully secure, so while we work to protect your data, we cannot guarantee absolute security.

11. Children

This site is meant for a general audience and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us personal data, please contact us and we will delete it. Alerts are meant for people aged 18 or over. If you’re under 18, please ask a parent or guardian before signing up.

12. Third-party links

Our site links to external websites, for example official service and helpline pages. We are not responsible for the privacy practices or content of those sites. Please read their own privacy policies.

13. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will change the "Last updated" date at the top, and significant changes will be made clear on this page. Please check back from time to time.
