About Paytm

Paytm is one of the oldest names in Indian digital payments, run by the listed company One97 Communications from Noida. It covers UPI payments, recharges, bill payments, movie and travel bookings, and a wide merchant business built around QR codes, soundboxes and card machines.

An important thing to know is that Paytm the app and Paytm Payments Bank are separate entities. The RBI cancelled the payments bank's licence in April 2026 and the Delhi High Court ordered it wound up a few months later, while the app carried on as before, its UPI now runs through partner banks such as Axis Bank, HDFC Bank, SBI and YES Bank.

Merchant collections and consumer payments both peak in shopping hours, on weekends and around festive sales.

If Paytm isn't working

Payment failed but money debited? Do not retry. Check Balance and History for the status and note the reference. The auto refund is tracked and usually reverses to your bank without any action.
Is it Paytm, your bank or UPI? A failed UPI payment is often the bank or the UPI network, not the app. Try another linked bank account for an urgent payment.
App not opening or stuck? Update Paytm, clear its cache and check your connection. If many users report it above, it is a Paytm side issue and waiting is the fix.
UPI PIN or limit issue? After 3 wrong UPI PIN tries it is blocked for 24 hours, and the daily UPI limit resets at midnight. Use net banking for a larger amount.
Recharge or bill stuck? Check the order status before repeating. A debited but pending recharge usually completes or refunds on its own.
Check the live status above If many people across India are reporting Paytm right now, it is a wider problem. Wait, or use another app rather than retrying.

Other ways to access Paytm

Use another UPI app The same bank account works in PhonePe, Google Pay or your bank's own app if Paytm is down.
Switch to a second linked bank account If one bank's server is down, pay from another bank inside Paytm for an urgent payment.
Pay by card or net banking for big amounts For an amount over the UPI limit, or when UPI is down, use your card or net banking instead.
Merchants: keep a backup QR A second bank's UPI QR keeps a shop taking payments if Paytm QR or Soundbox is down.
