About Amazon Pay

Amazon Pay is Amazon's payments arm in India, used for UPI, the Amazon Pay balance, gift cards, bill payments, recharges and one tap checkout on Amazon and on many partner apps and sites.

It is built into the Amazon shopping app and works as a standalone UPI app as well, running on the customer's linked bank account. So it gets used for two quite different things, ordinary merchant and bill payments on one side, and shopping on Amazon on the other.

Its heaviest hours come during Great Indian Festival and other sale events, when checkout volume climbs steeply for days at a stretch.

If Amazon Pay isn't working

For a failed payment, keep the reference A failed UPI payment is auto reversed. Note the reference and wait, rather than paying again.
Switch to a different linked bank If one bank keeps declining, pay from another bank linked in Amazon Pay, since the issue is often one bank, not all of Amazon Pay.
Refresh the app and check your network Reload the app and switch between Wi-Fi and mobile data. Updating the Amazon app also helps.
Use another UPI app for now The same bank account works in another UPI app if Amazon Pay itself is failing.

Other ways to access Amazon Pay

Use another UPI app on the same account If Amazon Pay UPI is down, the same bank account works through another UPI app for most payments.
Pay by card or net banking For a purchase, a card or net banking works when UPI or the wallet is down.
Switch banks for a declined payment If your bank is the one down, pay from a different linked bank or the receiver's other UPI ID.
Amazon help for a stuck payment For a debited but not received payment, use Amazon's help listed on the Amazon Pay helpline page.

Yes. Since Amazon Pay UPI runs on your bank account, a failed payment is auto reversed, usually within a few working days. Keep the reference and do not repeat it before checking your statement.

This is usually a temporary load or connection issue. Refresh the app, check your internet, and try again shortly. A failed recharge where money was taken is refunded to your source.
