About HDFC Bank

India's largest private sector bank by assets, HDFC Bank works out of Mumbai and serves crores of customers through branches, net banking and its mobile banking app.

In July 2023 its parent HDFC Ltd merged into the bank, which brought the home loan business under the same roof. It is also one of the biggest credit card issuers in India, with PayZapp for payments and SmartBuy for card offers sitting beside the main app. Statement and due dates therefore create a rush of their own, on top of the usual salary day and month end load, and festive sale weeks add more because a lot of shoppers reach for HDFC cards during those discounts.

If HDFC Bank isn't working

Transaction failed but money debited? Do not retry immediately. A failed IMPS or NEFT is auto reversed to your account, usually within a few hours to a couple of working days. Keep the reference number and check your statement first.
'Busy processing heavy load' message? This is peak day throttling on salary day or month end, not a full outage. Wait a few minutes, or switch to UPI or the MobileBanking app for an urgent payment.
Use UPI if a payment is urgent UPI from any app linked to your HDFC account usually still works even when net banking is down, so try that first instead of waiting.
Switch between website and the app If the net banking site will not load, the HDFC MobileBanking app often works, and vice versa. Switching between them is the quickest workaround.
App crashing after a phone update? Update the MobileBanking app and clear its cache, then reopen. After some OS updates a fresh reinstall is needed before it works again.
