About Parivahan

Parivahan Sewa is the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) portal for India's vehicle and driving licence records. Vahan runs vehicle registration, tax, permits, fitness and fancy numbers; Sarathi runs learner's and driving licences; eChallan handles traffic fines, and the mParivahan app carries a digital RC and licence.

Your state transport department and RTO still process each application after you pay online. Some online services are switched on only for selected states and RTOs, and not every old record has moved to the portal, so a few services work in one state and not in another.

If Parivahan isn't working

For a failed payment, do not pay twice Wait for the bank to reconcile, and check Status > Check Pending Transaction on Vahan before you try again.
'No record found'? Your state or RTO may not be online for that service yet, or your old record has not moved over. Your state transport site or RTO can help.
Check your OTP and connection Vahan's OTP reaches only the mobile on the vehicle record. Update it with Update User Mobile No under Other Services if the old number is gone.
Use the mParivahan app as a backup The mParivahan app shows your digital RC and licence even when the website is not loading.
Check the live status above If many people across India are reporting Parivahan right now, it is a wider problem and not just you.

Use the mParivahan app The mParivahan app handles many licence and vehicle services when the portal is not loading.
Pay a challan on eChallan Traffic challans are paid on echallan.parivahan.gov.in, which runs apart from Vahan and Sarathi; eChallan asks you to use only its official site or app.
State site or RTO for your own file Your state transport site or RTO handles a stuck application, a missing record or a licence not received. For portal faults, the Parivahan helpline page lists each helpdesk.

Check the reports on this page. Reports from all over India at once mean the national portal has a technical issue. If only your state's service fails, check your state transport site too, since some Parivahan services are live only in selected states and RTOs.

Do not pay again yet. A failed payment is normally reversed within a few working days. Parivahan says to wait, because the bank may still be reconciling the payment, and to watch it under Status > Check Pending Transaction on Vahan. A new payment for the same vehicle does not go through until the pending one settles. If the fee was taken twice, Parivahan sends you to your zonal office or transport department with the documents.

Vahan sends the OTP to whichever mobile is on the vehicle record. To change it, open Vahan, choose Update User Mobile No under Other Services, and enter the registration, full chassis and engine numbers with the old mobile; an OTP to the old number confirms the change. For online tax alone, any mobile number can take the OTP.

Dobara payment abhi na karein. Bank ki taraf se reconciliation baaki ho sakta hai, isliye Vahan par Check Pending Transaction mein status dekhte rahein. Pending transaction settle hone tak usi gaadi ka naya payment nahi hota.

Open sarathi.parivahan.gov.in, select your state and choose Application Status from the Apply Online menu. If you have lost the application number, use Find Application Number under Others. If the status says licence approved but the card has not reached you, Parivahan sends you to your zonal office or transport department.
