About UMANG

Short for Unified Mobile Application for New-age Governance, UMANG puts services from central and state government departments behind one login. It is an initiative of the National e-Governance Division (NeGD) under the Ministry of Electronics and IT, and it runs on Android and iOS apps, a website, a chatbot and a voice bot.

Through it a citizen can reach EPFO, DigiLocker, gas cylinder booking, pension and utility services, with separate lists for each state and union territory. A department's own system sits behind each service, so a single service can break while the others keep running.

If UMANG isn't working

One service not loading? It is often that department's server, not UMANG. Try another service, and the failing one again later.
Login or OTP failing? Check the number and wait for the OTP, and set an MPIN so you do not depend on the OTP each time.
Try the website Open web.umang.gov.in in a browser and sign in with the same mobile number when the app will not load.
Payment or booking failed? Do not pay again. Check the status inside the service that took the payment, then call 10505 with the reference.
App stuck? Update UMANG, clear its cache, and re-login.
Check the live status above If many people are reporting UMANG, it is a wider issue and not just you.

Other ways to access UMANG

Go to the department's own portal EPFO, DigiLocker and Aadhaar each run their own site and app. For a PF passbook that is epfindia.gov.in, which UMANG's own support points to when the passbook will not open.
Use the UMANG website versus the app web.umang.gov.in covers many of the app's services, so try it when the app will not open, and the other way round.

Check the reports on this page. UMANG carries dozens of departments, so a burst of reports across services usually means a technical issue with the app itself, while a single failing service often means that department's system.

UMANG is a front door to many departments rather than a service of its own, so a failure often belongs to the department behind it. EPFO or a state utility being down makes that section of the app fail while the rest carries on.

Go straight to EPFO. UMANG is a front door to other departments, and its own support has been telling users through 2026 that PF passbook services are migrating, pointing them to the EPFO Member Portal at epfindia.gov.in. Your UAN and password work there directly.

UMANG logs you in by mobile OTP or MPIN. Make sure the number is correct and wait for the OTP, and set an MPIN so you do not depend on the OTP every time.

Ek service fail ho to wo us department ka server ho sakta hai, dusri service try karein. MPIN set karein taaki har baar OTP par depend na karna pade. Agar kai log ek saath report kar rahe hain to gadbad UMANG ke system mein hai.

Keep an eye on the reports here: once new ones dry up, UMANG is usually working again. If only one service is down, use that department's own site meanwhile, such as the EPFO Member Portal for PF. UMANG's helpline, 10505, answers from 10 AM to 6 PM on all days.

Do not pay twice. Keep the reference number and check the status inside the service that took the payment, because the money sits with that department, not with UMANG. If it stays unclear, call UMANG on 10505 with the reference.
