About National Scholarship Portal
Central and state government scholarships are applied for in one place on the National Scholarship Portal (NSP), run under the Ministry of Electronics and IT. Pre-matric, post-matric, merit and welfare schemes all sit here, and from 2026-27 a student may hold one merit-based scholarship and more than one welfare-based scholarship.
Everything starts with One Time Registration, a 14-digit number tied to Aadhaar and issued once for the whole academic career. It is generated by face authentication in the NSP OTR app, and it is the username you log in with afterwards.
An application then passes to the institute for verification and on to the district, state or ministry level, each with its own closing date. Money is released through DBT and shows up on PFMS, not on NSP.

OTP not arriving? The OTP goes to the mobile number linked with your Aadhaar. If that number has changed, use Change Mobile no. on the OTR login page, which verifies you by Aadhaar OTP first.

Face authentication failing? Install both the NSP OTR app and UIDAI's AadhaarFaceRD app, and update AadhaarFaceRD if you see error 904. If your Aadhaar biometrics are locked, turn that lock off on mAadhaar first.

Forgot your OTR number or password? Know your OTR returns the number to your registered mobile. For the password, use Forget Password under the OTR login.

Application marked defective? Open My Applications, use Proceed against that application ID and then Fill/Edit Application Form, correct what the remark asks for and submit again.

Finish your part before the closing date Each scheme has separate closing dates for student submission, institute verification and the level-2 check, so submit early and leave the institute time to verify.

Track the money on PFMS instead A sanctioned scholarship is paid by DBT, and Know Your Payment on pfms.nic.in shows where it has reached. That is a separate system from NSP.

Do the OTR in the app The NSP OTR app handles e-KYC and face authentication on an Android phone, which is the part of registration that does not need the website.

Get it done at a Common Service Centre CSCs offer NSP services, and the total charge is fixed at Rs 30 for the whole job, from reference number and biometric authentication to the submitted application. Find one on locator.csccloud.in.

Start with the live check and the student reports on this page. A crowd of reports from different states at the same time means downtime or a technical issue on the portal itself. Few reports usually mean your own step is stuck, most often the OTP or face authentication.
Check which part is failing. NSP leans on other systems: Aadhaar e-KYC and face authentication go through UIDAI, and payment status comes from PFMS, so one of those can fail while the rest of the portal works. A scheme that has closed for the year simply stops showing, which is not an outage either.
Your mobile number must be the one linked with Aadhaar, since that is where the OTP goes. For face authentication, install AadhaarFaceRD along with the NSP OTR app; NSP says error 904 means that app needs updating from the Play Store. If you had locked your Aadhaar biometrics, turn that lock off on mAadhaar or myAadhaar, because a locked Aadhaar fails the check every time.
No. The list is built from your own details and from which schemes are open that day. Check Schemes on NSP for the opening and closing dates of the scheme you want, and check the eligibility page before assuming the site is broken. A merit-based scheme also disappears once you already hold one for that year.

Usually not. After you submit, your institute verifies the application, and the district, state or ministry level checks it after that. Each stage has its own closing date, so the status can sit still for weeks. Chase the institute nodal officer rather than the portal. Two things catch students out: after Final Submit you cannot edit the form yourself, and OTR alone is not an application.
Keep trying, and note the time and the error each attempt shows. NSP publishes a separate closing date for student submission, for institute verification and for the level-2 check, so the later stages still have room. If you cannot submit at all, register the problem on the NSP grievance page so there is a dated record of it.
