About Passport Seva

Passport Seva is the Ministry of External Affairs portal for applying for and renewing an Indian passport. Everything before the in-person visit happens here, the form, the fee, and the appointment slot at a Passport Seva Kendra or a post office PSK.

Applicants also use it to track status through police verification and printing, and to apply for police clearance certificates. The appointment slot release is the pressure point, slots for popular cities open at a set time and are taken within minutes, so a very large number of people are on the site in the same window.

If Passport Seva isn't working

No appointment slots? Log in just before the afternoon slot release and refresh. Check other PSKs and POPSKs in your state, as you can apply at any of them.
Payment failed but money deducted? It is refunded, so do not assume the slot is booked. Log back in to check before paying again.
Account locked? Use 'Having Trouble Logging In?' or Forgot Password. Your ID and date of birth must match to reset.
'Undefined' error or captcha loop? The slot may already be full or the session expired. Refresh, redo the captcha, and pick another available date.
Is it planned maintenance? The portal sometimes shuts for a few days. Booked appointments get rescheduled, so wait for the notice.

Other ways to access Passport Seva

Check other PSKs and POPSKs You can apply at any PSK in India, and Post Office POPSKs often have better slot availability than the main centres.

Slots fill fast and the site slows at release time, so slots can look unavailable even when a few exist. Normal slots usually release in the afternoon, so log in just before and refresh, and check other PSKs and POPSKs in your state.

A failed payment is refunded, so do not assume the slot is booked. Log back in to check the status, and make the payment again only if it did not go through.
