About GeM

GeM, the Government e-Marketplace, is where government departments buy their goods and services. Ministries, PSUs and state bodies place orders on it, and registered sellers list products or bid against tenders.

It was set up to move public procurement out of paper tendering and into an open online market, and MSMEs and small sellers form a large share of the seller base. Everything from office stationery to vehicles and manpower services passes through it. Load peaks near bid deadlines and heavily around March, when departments rush to spend before the financial year closes.

If GeM isn't working

Start before the deadline The portal is busiest at year end and near bid deadlines. Starting your bid or order early avoids the worst of the load.
Keep your GeM ID and OTP ready Most actions are account-linked, so keep your user ID handy and wait a minute for the OTP.
Do not resubmit a bid or payment If a bid or payment seems stuck, check its status before submitting again, so you do not duplicate it.
Raise a ticket on the portal For an unresolved issue, raise a ticket on GeM so it is tracked with a reference number.
Check the live status above If many people are reporting GeM right now, it is a wider load issue and not just you.

Try off-peak, away from the deadline For a bid or order, trying outside the deadline rush usually goes through more smoothly.
Use the helpdesk for a stuck bid For a stuck bid, order or payment, the GeM helpdesk can pick it up with your reference.

Check the live status and report map above. If reports are spiking, especially near financial year end or a bid deadline, it is a wider GeM problem and not just you.

Check the reports above, then check the clock. Bid closing deadlines concentrate traffic into the last hours before a due date, and that is when GeM slows most. A login or signing failure with reports otherwise quiet is usually the DSC token, its driver or the browser rather than the portal.

Near deadlines a large number of buyers and sellers use the portal together, so it slows down or errors out. It is load, and starting a bid or order early rather than at the last minute helps.

This is usually load, or an OTP or session issue. Keep your GeM user ID ready, wait for the OTP, and avoid submitting the same bid twice.

A failed payment is normally reversed within a few working days. Keep the reference and check the order status before paying again.
