India Post runs the largest postal network in the world, with more than one and a half lakh post offices, most of them rural. It is operated by the Department of Posts and reaches addresses no private courier finds worth serving.

People use its site and app mainly to track Speed Post and registered articles and to book parcels, and the same network carries savings accounts, insurance and IPPB banking alongside the mail. Parcel volume climbs during festivals and sale seasons, and its tracking pages get busiest then.
