About BSNL

BSNL is the state owned telecom operator, and for years its problem was simple, it had no 4G while everyone else did. That changed with a rollout built on an indigenous technology stack developed in India, with around a lakh 4G sites installed.

It holds a small share of the mobile market now, but its reach into villages, its landline base and its broadband are still substantial, and its tariffs remain the cheapest in the country.

Recharges, bill payments and fibre booking go through its portal and app, and demand for it rises whenever private operators raise tariffs.

If BSNL isn't working

No signal or network? Restart the phone, toggle airplane mode, and check whether people nearby also have no signal, which points to an area outage.
Broadband or FTTH down? Check the ONT box lights. An off or red internet or fiber light means a line fault, so restart the ONT and router.
Mobile data or 4G slow? BSNL 4G is still expanding, so try a different spot, toggle mobile data, and check the correct APN is set.
Calls dropping? This is usually weak coverage or congestion. Toggle airplane mode and turn on VoLTE or Wi-Fi calling if supported.
Check the live status above If many people across your area or India are reporting BSNL, it is a wider outage and not just you.
Report the fault Raise it on the verified helpline or the BSNL app. Wider outages are posted by SMS or on the official handle.

Other ways to access BSNL

Hotspot from another SIM If you have a second SIM on another network, share its data over a hotspot until BSNL is back.
Wi-Fi calling over broadband If BSNL mobile signal is weak but you have working Wi-Fi, enable Wi-Fi calling to make and take calls.
Switch between mobile data and broadband BSNL mobile and BSNL broadband are separate networks, so if one is down the other often still works.
Report and track on the app or helpline The BSNL app works over any internet to raise a fault, and the verified BSNL helpline can register a complaint.

Check the live status and report map above. BSNL issues are often local, so if people near you are also reporting it, it is an area outage. If it is only you, it is more likely your SIM or device.

BSNL coverage is patchy in some places and its 4G is still rolling out, so a few areas get weak signal or no data. A tower fault or maintenance in your locality also causes it, and the reports above show whether it is area wide.

Check the fiber box, the ONT, lights first. If the internet or fiber light is off or red, it is a line or area fault, not your router. Restart the ONT and router, and if it is still down it is likely at BSNL's end.
