A parcel posted at a US Post Office for India travels with the United States Postal Service (USPS), the US government post. Its international tracking numbers have 13 characters and end in US. In USPS's own sample numbers, EC marks Priority Mail Express International, CP is Priority Mail International, RA is Registered Mail and LX is First-Class.

Once a parcel reaches India, India Post carries it the last mile. A lost or damaged item is taken up by the person who posted it. The US sender goes to USPS, and a sender in India goes to India Post.

Count the characters A USPS international number has 13 characters: two letters, nine digits and US at the end. A number shaped differently belongs to another carrier.
Search on India Post as well After the parcel lands in India, the later scans can show on India Post's tracking under the same number.
Type the number in yourself Open usps.com and enter the tracking number there, rather than following a link that came in a text or email.
Wait out the first week USPS takes an inquiry on Priority Mail International only from 7 days after posting, and on Priority Mail Express International from 3 days.

Other ways to access USPS

Follow the India leg on India Post Enter the same 13-character number on India Post's site to see the scans once the parcel is in the country.
Ask the sender to open the inquiry Only the person who posted the item in the US can start an international inquiry, so send them the tracking number and the date it was posted.

Only when many people report it in the same hour. A run of reports about usps.com or USPS Tracking means USPS is facing issues. When just your parcel has no new scan, usps.com itself is fine; recheck the tracking number.

Check the number first. A USPS international number has 13 characters: two letters, nine digits and US at the end. Tracking comes with many, but not all, international services, so ask the sender which one they used. Once the parcel is in India, try the same number on India Post's tracking. If no number works for anyone, USPS Tracking has a technical issue.

No, the US sender has to. Only the sender can open an international inquiry, online at usps.com or by phone on 1-800-222-1811. For Priority Mail International the window runs from 7 days to 6 months after posting, and for Priority Mail Express International from 3 to 90 days.

Start with India Post. USPS asks a sender outside the US to raise the inquiry with the post office of the country the item left from. If it arrives damaged, the person receiving it in the US can take it to a US Post Office to report it.

Not if you never asked USPS to track that parcel. USPS sends tracking texts only after you request them with a tracking number, and those messages carry no link. Do not tap it. Email the text and a screenshot to [email protected], the Postal Inspection Service.
