About Jana Small Finance Bank

Before it was a bank it was Janalakshmi Financial Services, at one point the largest microfinance institution in the country, founded in Bengaluru in 2006. Demonetisation hit that book hard and the company carried heavy losses into its conversion, which makes the turnaround since notable. Banking operations began on 28 March 2018.

Bengaluru is still home and the customer base still leans towards micro-borrowers and small businesses, though the bank has pushed a digital platform and retail deposits alongside. It listed on the exchanges in 2024.
