Jana Bank began life in Bengaluru in 2006 as Janalakshmi Financial Services, a microfinance company, and started banking as Jana Small Finance Bank on 28 March 2018. Microfinance and group loans are still a big part of its business, next to savings accounts, deposits and small business lending.

Customers bank through the Jana Bank Mobile Banking app, internet banking, UPI and RuPay debit cards. When the bank plans overnight work, it posts an alert on its homepage, and digital banking, UPI and ATMs can all go offline together for a few hours.
