Answer: No iMessage issues reported in the last 24 hours, and it responded normally at our last check on 24 Oct 2026, 4:05 AM IST.

Our automated check runs from one or more locations and may miss in-app problems; reports come from users across India. We only call something "down" when users confirm it too. Here's how we check.

About iMessage

Blue bubbles in the Messages app mean iMessage, Apple's messaging service between iPhone, iPad, Mac and Apple Watch users. Texts, photos and videos go over Wi-Fi or mobile data instead of as SMS.

On an iPhone, iMessage is linked to your phone number through a one-time activation SMS, and to your Apple Account. A message to an Android phone, or one sent when iMessage is unavailable, goes as RCS, SMS or MMS and shows in a green bubble.

If iMessage isn't working

  • See if other iMessage users in India report it If iMessage reports are rising from all over India together, the fault is on Apple's side.

  • Look up iMessage on System Status Apple lists iMessage there as its own service. An issue shown means you only need to wait.

  • Switch iMessage off and on Settings, then Apps, then Messages. Turn iMessage off, restart the iPhone, then turn it back on.

  • Check date, time and iOS A wrong time zone or an old iOS version stops activation. Fix both under Settings, then General.

  • Ask your network about SMS Activation needs an international SMS. Your operator can confirm whether your plan allows it.

Other ways to access iMessage

  • Send as a text message Tap the red exclamation mark, then Send as Text Message. Normal SMS rates may apply.

  • Use your email address Under Send & Receive, pick your Apple Account email to keep iMessage working while the number activates.

  • Message from a Mac or iPad Sign in to Messages there with the same Apple Account and keep chatting over Wi-Fi.

  • Reach Apple Support Apple's India number and email are on our iMessage helpline page.

Questions

iPhone users across India log iMessage problems here, and Apple keeps a separate iMessage entry on its System Status page. When both look normal, check your phone's settings, SIM and connection.

The usual signs are:

  • A red exclamation mark with Not Delivered.
  • Messages sent as green bubbles instead of blue.
  • "Waiting for activation" or "Activation unsuccessful".
  • Messages reaching the iPad or Mac but not the iPhone.

Look at iMessage on Apple's System Status page. If Apple lists no issue, turn iMessage off and on in Settings, then Apps, then Messages.

iMessage activates your number by sending an SMS, and your network may charge for it. If it stays stuck:

  1. Check that Date and Time has the right time zone.
  2. Update to the latest iOS and connect to Wi-Fi or mobile data.
  3. Ask Jio, Airtel, Vi or BSNL whether your plan can send and receive international SMS.

Verification can take up to 24 hours. There is no need to keep switching iMessage off and on.

On iOS 26, iMessage does not switch on by itself when you add an eSIM after setting up the phone. Go to Settings, Apps, Messages and turn iMessage off and back on.

If your old SIM with the same number still shows under Mobile Data, delete that inactive eSIM or remove the old SIM, or update to iOS 26.1.

Green means the message went as RCS, SMS or MMS, not iMessage. That is normal for a text to an Android phone. Between two iPhones, open Settings, Apps, Messages, Send & Receive and tap your phone number, and make sure your line is on under Mobile Data.

iMessage works between Apple devices: iPhone, iPad, Mac and Apple Watch. Texts to and from Android phones go as RCS or SMS.

Moved from iPhone to Android? Put the SIM back in the iPhone and turn off iMessage and FaceTime, or use Apple's deregister iMessage page if the iPhone is gone. Texts then reach the new phone.

iMessage Apple ka messaging service hai, jo iPhone, iPad aur Mac ke beech Wi-Fi ya mobile data par chalta hai. Iske liye SMS pack nahi, data chahiye. Sirf number activate karne wala ek SMS network ke hisaab se charge ho sakta hai.

Open the message and tap Report Spam at the bottom, then Delete and Report Spam. The message and sender details go to Apple.

Reporting does not stop the sender, so also open the chat, tap their icon, then Info and Block Contact. You cannot report a message after you reply to it.

iMessage is supported by Apple Support, which takes calls on 000800 100 9009 free of charge from India. Apple's support email is on our iMessage helpline page.

Yes, tap download on the status card at the top to save a server down image showing iMessage's current status, the last checked time, and how many users are reporting problems.
