Use a personal access token in place of your password. GitLab shows this error when 2FA is on and you sent a password, or when the password or token is wrong or expired. For Git over HTTPS, the token needs the read_repository or write_repository scope.

If status.gitlab.com shows an incident, GitLab's engineers are on call 24/7 and already working on it, so give it time. If it is green and you use your company's own GitLab, ask your GitLab administrator, because GitLab.com's status does not cover it. Otherwise check your network, token and SSH key.
