About Microsoft 365
Microsoft 365, earlier called Office 365, is Microsoft's suite of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and OneDrive, used across Indian offices, colleges and homes. People open it at microsoft365.com or office.com, both of which now lead to m365.cloud.microsoft, and in the desktop and phone apps.
Microsoft publishes service health at status.cloud.microsoft. Work and school accounts see their detailed status in the Microsoft 365 admin center, which the IT admin can check.

Switch between web and desktop If the desktop app fails, open the file in the browser at microsoft365.com, or the other way round.

Use the phone app The Microsoft 365 app on Android or iPhone opens files from OneDrive.

Keep a local copy Download important files from OneDrive so you can keep working offline.

A cluster of reports from India, or an issue on Microsoft's status page, means Microsoft is facing an outage. Wait for the fix.
If it is only you, restart the app first. If Word or Excel still misbehaves, repair Office from Windows settings.
- Restart the Word, Excel or other app.
- Right-click Start and open Apps and Features.
- Select Microsoft 365, then Modify.
- Choose Online Repair, then Repair. Quick Repair is faster but only replaces damaged files.
Check your macOS version first. Since 13 July 2026, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and OneNote on older systems open in "reduced functionality mode": you can view and print files but not edit or save. Update to macOS 12 Monterey or later, then update the Office apps.
If Office will not activate, sign out and back in with the account that holds your subscription, or run the Activation troubleshooter in Get Help.
On iPhone or iPad, update to iOS 17 or later and then update the apps. On older versions the apps can open files but cannot edit or save them.
On Android, update Word, Excel or PowerPoint from Google Play and sign in with your subscription account. Basic editing is free on phones and tablets up to 10.1 inches; extra features need a Microsoft 365 subscription.
Use Microsoft's sign-in helper on its support site. Enter the email or phone number you sign in with, and it checks for problems and tells you what to do next.
