GitHub is working right now
There's nothing to notify you about. If it goes down later, come back and we'll let you know when it's fixed.
Our automated check runs from one or more locations and may miss in-app problems; reports come from users across India. We only call something "down" when users confirm it too. Here's how we check.

About GitHub
GitHub is where the world's code lives. Owned by Microsoft, it hosts repositories for individual developers, open source projects and most large engineering teams, and it is also where code review and automated builds happen through pull requests and Actions.
For Indian software teams, and for the very large number of students learning to code here, it doubles as a portfolio that employers actually look at.
When it has trouble, work stops in a specific way, pushes and pulls fail and deployment pipelines stall, across many companies at once.

If GitHub isn't working
-
Check the official GitHub status page GitHub publishes a status page that lists which components (Actions, API, Pages, Git operations) are affected. Check it first to know if it is GitHub or you.
-
Check which component is down An incident may hit only Actions or only the API while push and pull work. Knowing the affected component tells you what to wait on.
-
Rule out your credentials and network If the status page is green, check your token, SSH key and connection before assuming an outage.
-
Retry after a short wait For transient failures, retry the push, pull or workflow after a short wait rather than repeatedly.
-
Check the live status above If many people are reporting GitHub right now, it is a wider outage and not just you.
Other ways to access GitHub
-
Follow the official status page GitHub's status page and status social handle post live updates on the incident and the affected components.
-
Work locally and push later Git is distributed, so you can keep committing locally and push once GitHub is back.
-
Use another remote temporarily For an urgent share, pushing to another Git remote or mirror can be a short-term workaround.
-
Wait out a platform incident If it is confirmed on GitHub's side, only their fix resolves it, so watch the status page for the all-clear.
