Q: How do I fix 'Permission denied (publickey)' on GitHub?

Run ssh -T git@github.com and look for the Hi USERNAME greeting. Then check three things. (1) You connect as the git user, not your GitHub username. (2) You are not using sudo, which picks up different keys. (3) Your key is loaded in ssh-agent and added to your account. If a firewall blocks port 22, GitHub lets you use SSH over port 443 at ssh.github.com.

Try another network Office, college and some public networks block GitHub. Switch to mobile data and try once.
Use a token, not your password For HTTPS pushes, paste a personal access token when Git asks for the password.
Switch between HTTPS and SSH GitHub says changing the clone method can fix connection trouble. If port 22 is blocked, use SSH over port 443 at ssh.github.com.
Turn off browser extensions Ad blockers can break GitHub pages. Test in a private window with extensions off, on an updated browser.

If neither does, look at your network, SSH key or token.

When githubstatus.com shows an incident, only GitHub's fix clears it, and the page names the part affected. With no incident, GitHub points to the network: a firewall, proxy, or office or college network that blocks GitHub is the most common cause of connection trouble. Try another network, or ask the network admin to allow GitHub.
