Video and audio calls between Apple devices run on FaceTime, built into every iPhone, iPad and Mac. A call can take up to 32 people and runs over Wi-Fi or mobile data, with screen sharing and SharePlay to watch or listen together.
Friends on Android phones or Windows laptops can join through a FaceTime link in Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge, though only an Apple device can create the link.
FaceTime uses your phone number and Apple Account, so it shares an activation step with iMessage.

Callers in India post FaceTime problems on this page as they happen. Apple shows FaceTime as its own service on the System Status page too. If neither points to a fault, check the connection on both sides of the call.
Check which of these you see:
- "Unable to connect" or connection alerts.
- Choppy video or a black screen.
- Calls that drop midway.
- FaceTime stuck on "Waiting for activation".
Apple's status page shows whether FaceTime itself is down. Otherwise, both people need a fast Wi-Fi or mobile connection; others streaming on the same Wi-Fi can slow the call.
Reset the FaceTime settings, especially after a new phone or SIM:
- In Settings, open Mobile Data and check your phone line is on.
- Go to Settings, Apps, FaceTime. Turn it off and on, then tap your number.
- Under Screen Time, Content and Privacy Restrictions, allow Camera and FaceTime.
- Set the date and time to automatic, then restart.
Open FaceTime, then Settings, then General, and sign in with the Apple Account you use on your iPhone. Select your phone number there so calls ring on the Mac. Your iPhone must also have the number turned on for FaceTime.
Yes, by joining a call through a link. Someone with an iPhone, iPad or Mac creates a FaceTime link and sends it to you.
- Open the link in the latest Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge.
- Type your name, choose Continue, then Join.
- Wait for the host to let you in.
Screen sharing and SharePlay do not work on the web.
On iPhone 12 or later, tap your own tile in a video call and make sure Reactions is on. Hold your hands away from your face for a moment, and effects like hearts, balloons or fireworks fill the frame. Only the front camera supports it. Turn Reactions off from Control Center if gestures trigger by mistake.
