About Nainital Bank

The RBI lists it among private sector banks, but Nainital Bank is a subsidiary of Bank of Baroda, which makes it government owned at one remove. It was founded in 1922 by Govind Ballabh Pant, who went on to become the first chief minister of Uttar Pradesh.

Regional by design and still that way. Roughly 174 branches across Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Haryana and Rajasthan, serving hill-district savings customers, pensioners, small traders and agricultural borrowers.

Digital banking came later here than at the larger private banks. Net banking and the Naini Neo mobile app now cover transfers, deposits and card services, and pension credit dates along with month end are when the systems are busiest.
