About Equitas Small Finance Bank

One of the larger small finance banks by branch count, Equitas grew out of a Chennai microfinance lender and began banking in September 2016 once the RBI licence came through. Scheduled bank status followed a few months later, in early 2017.

Most of the lending still goes where the bank was built to lend, small business owners, vehicle finance and micro borrowers in the informal economy. On the deposit side it competes hard on savings rates, which pulls in a fair number of purely digital customers, and the app, net banking and UPI carry the bulk of transactions.
