About DBS Bank India

Singapore's DBS took an unusual route into India. Rather than running the parent's branches it became the first foreign bank to convert into a wholly owned subsidiary, incorporating DBS Bank India Limited in 2018, and two years later it absorbed Lakshmi Vilas Bank under an RBI scheme.

That merger is why a Singaporean bank suddenly held a branch network in the south, sitting beside the app-first digibank customer base it had built from nothing. DBS now reaches more than 350 cities. Savings accounts, fixed deposits, personal and gold loans, remittances, mutual funds and credit cards all sit behind one login.

The digibank app uses SIM binding: it is tied to the SIM holding your registered mobile number, so a new phone or a new number means activating the app again.

If DBS Bank India isn't working

Changed phone or SIM? Activate the app again SIM binding stops digibank opening after a phone or number change. Same number and SIM on a new handset: activate the app and it revalidates itself. New number: update it with DBS first.
On a dual-SIM phone, pick the registered SIM The app asks which SIM to verify against, and it has to be the one holding the number DBS has on file. Keep that SIM in the phone and active, or the check fails every time.
If SIM binding keeps failing, reinstall DBS's own instruction is to uninstall the app and install it again before trying once more. On an iPhone the verification SMS is pre-composed, so send it unedited; on Android it goes silently.
Do not resend a failed transfer The reversal is automatic. Keep the reference number and let it land rather than debiting yourself twice.
Look for a wider pattern Many digibank reports from different cities in one hour point at DBS rather than your handset. When it is quiet, the SIM binding steps on this list are the likelier fix.

Other ways to access DBS Bank India

UPI from any other app Link your DBS account into another UPI app and a smaller payment can still go through when digibank itself is unresponsive.
Net banking in a browser If the app hangs, try internet banking in a browser, and the other way round. Internet banking also lets you block a debit card without waiting on a call.
digibot, inside the app Open digibank, tap the message icon at the top right and type into digibot. Business customers do the same from the IDEAL dashboard by messaging Businesscare.
ATM for cash, and a mini statement At any ATM, the DBS debit card still gives cash, the balance and a mini statement of the last few entries.

SIM binding. DBS locks the digibank app to the SIM that holds your registered mobile number, as cover against SIM-swap fraud. On a new phone with the same SIM, just activate the app again and it revalidates. On a new mobile number, update the number with DBS first, or the app has nothing to bind to. That is a setup step, not a bank outage.

Not straight away. A transfer that fails is reversed by the system, so note the reference number and watch the statement rather than sending it again. DBS also runs a payment recall desk for NEFT and RTGS, open Monday to Friday, which is the route when the money genuinely has not come back.

It depends on your relationship with the bank. Personal and digibank customers, Treasures clients, credit card holders and business customers each have their own line, and there are separate numbers again for calling from outside India, because toll-free lines do not connect from abroad.
