About DBS Bank India

Singapore's DBS took an unusual route into India. Rather than running a branch network of the parent, it became the first foreign bank to convert into a wholly owned subsidiary, incorporating DBS Bank India Limited in 2018, and two years later it absorbed the troubled Lakshmi Vilas Bank under an RBI scheme.

That merger is why a Singaporean bank suddenly held several hundred branches concentrated in Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh, sitting alongside the app-first digibank customer base it had built from scratch. Savings accounts, fixed deposits, personal and gold loans, remittances, mutual funds and credit cards all run behind the same login.

Security here is tighter than most. SIM binding ties the app to a specific SIM, which is also the commonest reason a login stops working after someone changes a phone or a number. App traffic peaks on salary days and at month end.
