About Tamilnad Mercantile Bank

It opened in 1921 as Nadar Bank, set up to serve the trading community of southern Tamil Nadu, and took the Tamilnad Mercantile Bank name in 1962. Thoothukudi is still the head office.

A little over 600 branches now, weighted heavily towards Tamil Nadu though the bank has a presence in most states. Deposits, gold loans, MSME and agricultural lending are the core, and it came to the stock exchanges in 2022 after decades as an unlisted private bank.
