About ESAF Small Finance Bank

ESAF began in 1992 as a Thrissur NGO, the Evangelical Social Action Forum, lending small sums to women's groups in rural Kerala. That grew into a microfinance company, and in March 2017 it started banking as ESAF Small Finance Bank.

The social banking framing has stuck. Several hundred branches, a large share of them in Kerala and Tamil Nadu, and a customer base weighted towards micro borrowers, first-time account holders and Gulf NRI deposits.
