Its core product is the Droplet, a straightforward virtual server, alongside managed databases, Kubernetes and an app platform for deploying directly from a code repository. A great many small sites, side projects and Indian startup backends run on it, so a fault in one of its data centres takes a set of unrelated small services with it.

Retry with backoff For transient errors, retry after a short wait rather than hammering the service, which can make recovery slower.
