About CESC

CESC supplies electricity to Kolkata and Howrah and is one of the oldest utilities in the country, in business since the late nineteenth century. It is part of the RP-Sanjiv Goenka group and serves around thirty five lakh consumers.

Being a compact, licensed city area rather than a whole state, its network is dense and largely underground in the older parts. Its real tests come from cyclones and heavy monsoon, when Kolkata can lose power across neighbourhoods for extended stretches. Bills, payments and complaints run through its app and website.

If CESC isn't working

For a failed payment, keep the reference A failed bill payment is normally auto reversed. Note the reference and check your bill status before paying again, so you do not pay twice.
Try the app instead of the site, or a UPI app If the CESC website is stuck, the official app or a UPI app like PhonePe, Google Pay or Paytm can usually fetch and pay the bill.
For a power cut, call 1912 A power outage is separate from the billing site. Call 1912 or use the app to register the outage, and keep your consumer number ready.
Keep your consumer number ready Have your consumer or account number (from your bill) ready, since every bill check, payment and complaint needs it.

Other ways to access CESC

Pay through a UPI or BBPS app You can pay your CESC bill through PhonePe, Google Pay, Paytm or your bank's BBPS bill-pay, which usually works when the utility's own site is down. Keep the consumer number.
Use the official app The CESC app can show and pay bills and register complaints when the website is busy, and the other way round.
Report a power cut on 1912 For a no-supply complaint, 1912 reaches the local board directly and does not depend on the billing website being up. The verified CESC helpline has the numbers.
Pay at a collection centre For a due bill when everything online is down, an authorised bill-collection centre or the utility office accepts payment in person.

Check the live status and report map above. If reports are spiking, especially near bill due dates or during a power cut, it is a wider CESC problem and not just you.

Before anything else, check which CESC you mean. Two unrelated companies use the name, one supplying Kolkata and one covering Mysore and the surrounding districts, and they run entirely separate sites and helplines. Landing on the wrong one looks exactly like an outage.

Do not pay again immediately. A failed payment is normally auto reversed within a few working days, and the bill often updates once the utility reconciles it. Keep the transaction reference and check your bill status before paying again.

Close to due dates a huge number of consumers in Kolkata and Howrah pay together, so the portal slows down or errors out for a while. It is the load, not your connection.

For a power outage, call 1912, which reaches the local electricity board, or use the utility's app to register and track the complaint. The billing website being slow does not mean the power complaint line is down.
