Answer: No Sandes issues reported in the last 24 hours, and it responded normally at our last check on 24 Oct 2026, 4:09 AM IST.

Our automated check runs from one or more locations and may miss in-app problems; reports come from users across India. We only call something "down" when users confirm it too. Here's how we check.

About Sandes

Sandes, the Government Instant Messaging System (GIMS), is the government's own messaging app, built by the National Informatics Centre (NIC) under MeitY. Government officials and citizens use it to exchange messages, files and audio or video calls, all end-to-end encrypted.

It runs on Android, iOS and the web through Sandes Web on sandes.gov.in, and it links with eGov applications for government-to-citizen messages.

If Sandes isn't working

  • See if other Sandes users report it When Sandes reports rise all at once, the service is down. Give it some time.

  • Look for the OTP inside the app Sandes Web sends its OTP to your Sandes app, so open the app instead of waiting for an SMS.

  • Turn off battery optimisation Choose Ignore Battery Optimisation under Optimise Notifications in the Account tab to get alerts on time.

  • Use the registered number Log in with the same mobile number or email you registered with, because Sandes does not let you change the number later.

Other ways to access Sandes

Questions

Our Sandes card watches the Sandes portal and collects reports from app and Sandes Web users. A cluster of them at once means Sandes itself is down. If you alone are stuck, restart the app and check your data connection.

If messages arrive late or without alerts, go to Optimise Notifications under the Account tab and choose Ignore Battery Optimisation, as Sandes' own FAQ advises.

If the app opens but nothing sends for anyone, the problem is on the Sandes side.

  1. Open Login - Sandes Web on sandes.gov.in.
  2. Enter the email or mobile number registered in Sandes and the captcha.
  3. Type the OTP, which arrives inside the Sandes app, not by SMS.

Government users can also sign in with their LDAP credentials.

Those features open once your organisation verifies you, or once a verified user invites you. A self-registered user who has not been invited cannot make audio or video calls, chat in groups or send invites.

No. Sandes' FAQ says a number used to register cannot be changed, and suggests deleting the old account and making a new profile with the new number.

Use Backup in the Account tab, for messages only or a full backup on your device. Automatic Backup saves once a day. Sandes cannot move chats between iOS and Android, so restore from the backup when you reinstall.

From the Google Play Store for Android, or the App Store for iPhone, where its name is GIMS Instant Messaging System. Both links are on sandes.gov.in.

The competent authority of your organisation writes to the Sandes support email to request onboarding. After that, the organisation's nodal officer verifies its staff.
