Answer: No RTI Online issues reported in the last 24 hours, and it responded normally at our last check on 24 Oct 2026, 4:07 AM IST.
Our automated check runs from one or more locations and may miss in-app problems; reports come from users across India. We only call something "down" when users confirm it too. Here's how we check.

About RTI Online
RTI Online is the Government of India portal for filing Right to Information requests and first appeals to central ministries, departments and other central public authorities. The Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) owns it and NIC built it.
You can file without an account, pay the RTI fee by UPI, card or net banking, and track the reply with your registration number. Second appeals go to the Central Information Commission (CIC), whose portal now picks up the case details from RTI Online.

If RTI Online isn't working
-
See if other RTI applicants report it When many applicants report RTI Online together, the portal is down. Try again later.
-
One payment is enough If the fee went through but the page failed, wait for reconciliation instead of paying again.
-
Keep to 3000 characters The request box takes up to 3000 characters and only plain letters, numbers and a few symbols. Put longer text in a PDF with no spaces in the file name.
-
Use View Status, not your account Requests filed without logging in do not appear in your account history. Look them up with View Status.
Other ways to access RTI Online
-
File on paper You can still send an RTI by post to the public authority's information officer. The officer can lodge it on the portal so replies reach you by email.
-
Second appeal to CIC After the first appeal, go to the Central Information Commission's online appeal portal. It fetches your RTI and first appeal details from RTI Online.
-
Read the user manual The citizen user manual on the portal walks through filing, payment and appeals step by step.
-
Contact the DoPT help desk Phone numbers and email are on our RTI Online helpline page.

Questions
Our RTI Online card checks rtionline.gov.in and shows what other applicants report. If many people report it together, the portal is the problem. When only the payment step fails, ask your bank or the gateway.
The payment step causes the most trouble. If money left your account but no registration number came, the portal says the number can take 24 to 48 working hours to generate.
Do not pay again. Use Payment Reconciliation on the portal to check the status.
- Choose the ministry or department and write your request, up to 3000 characters. Longer text goes as a PDF supporting document.
- Pay the RTI fee by net banking, card, RuPay or UPI.
- Note the registration number you get.
No. RTI Online is only for central government public authorities. The portal returns any application to a state department, including the Government of NCT of Delhi, without refunding the fee. Use that state's own RTI route instead.
Wait 24 to 48 working hours. The portal generates the number once the bank scrolls are reconciled. Check Payment Reconciliation meanwhile. If nothing comes, email the help desk with your transaction details, or ask your bank for a refund.
Click View Status and enter your registration number and email. Replies, requests for more fee and requests for documents all show there. The portal keeps cases for 3 years.
Submit First Appeal se pehli appeal daalein. Iske liye registration number aur email chahiye, aur koi fee nahi lagti. Appeal 30 din poore hone ke baad hi file hoti hai.
The DoPT help desk is 011-24010690, on weekdays during office hours. Its other number and email address are on our RTI Online helpline page.
