About Protean PAN

Protean PAN is the PAN service of Protean eGov Technologies Limited, formerly NSDL e-Governance Infrastructure Limited, and one of the two agencies the Income Tax Department uses for PAN. The other is UTIITSL, which is why old NSDL PAN links now land here.

Protean takes new PAN applications, corrections and reprints, and sends e-PAN cards by email. Its status tracker, e-PAN download and reprint work only for applications Protean processed. From 1 April 2026, new applications use Form 93 or 94 for Indian citizens and entities.

If Protean PAN isn't working

Status check returning nothing? Read the acknowledgement number digit by digit, and check the application went through Protean and not the other agency.
Fee debited but no application? Do not apply again. Keep the payment reference and look up the status before paying a second time.
Card payment failing? Online PAN fees by credit or debit card need the card PIN under RBI rules. Get it from your bank, or pay by net banking or UPI instead.

Track the status on the TIN page The PAN and TAN status tracker sits on tin.tin.proteantech.in, apart from the application portal.
WhatsApp the call centre Send Hi to 8096078080 on WhatsApp. Protean says the service runs 24/7, which helps when the website is the thing failing.
The Income Tax route for an e-PAN The Income Tax e-filing site issues an instant e-PAN through Aadhaar, separately from either agency.
Ask at a TIN facilitation centre PAN centres accept forms in person and can look up an application for you.

Check the reports on this page. Many reports at once mean Protean's site has a technical issue. If it is only your status check that returns nothing, the application may have gone through UTIITSL, since Protean can only see its own.

Most failed requests have a simple cause. The status tracker needs the 15-digit acknowledgement number, and e-PAN download and reprint work only when your latest application went through Protean. For a card payment, RBI rules need your card PIN, so get it from your bank before paying.

Do not file a second application. On Protean's PAN page, open Status of online payment with your transaction details; if the payment shows as received, use Regenerate ack receipt to get the acknowledgement. If it still does not show, call the call centre with the payment reference.

Whichever one took your application. Protean tracks only what was filed through Protean, and UTIITSL only its own. The acknowledgement slip names the agency, and a 15-digit acknowledgement number is Protean's.
