About ESIC
Workers covered by the Employees' State Insurance Corporation (ESIC), under the Ministry of Labour and Employment, get medical care at ESI dispensaries and hospitals and cash benefits for sickness, maternity, disablement and job loss.
Two groups use its site every day. Employers register staff and pay monthly contributions by e-challan on the Employer Portal. Insured persons use the IP Portal to download the e-Pehchan card, file benefit claims, check eligibility and change their dispensary. If the payment step fails, employers can still print the challan from Unable to make Online Payment? on the home page.

Use the right portal Employers log in on the Employer Portal and workers on the IP Portal. The two have different logins.

Start a fresh session Close the tab, clear the browser cache, and open the login page again from esic.gov.in instead of an old bookmark.

Confirm the mobile for the OTP The OTP goes to the mobile linked to your ESIC record. Wait a minute before asking for another.

Pay before the due date Paying a few days early leaves time to use the printable challan if the online payment fails on the day.

Only if employers and insured persons report it together. A burst of reports in the same hour means the ESIC portal itself has a problem. One failed login with no other reports usually comes down to your own session or connection.
Check which part is failing first.
- Employer Portal: employers log in here to file contributions and pay the e-challan.
- IP Portal: insured persons have a separate login page, so one portal can work while the other does not.
- e-challan payment: if only the payment step fails, the Unable to make Online Payment? link on esic.gov.in gives a printable challan.
When both portals fail for many people at once, the ESIC server is down and only time fixes it.
Retry Pay e-challan after some time. If the online payment still fails, use the Unable to make Online Payment? link under Quick Links on esic.gov.in to download the challan. IT problems with the portal go to 011-27552237.
Log in to the IP Portal with your insurance number and print it. It is also on the UMANG app and DigiLocker. A new employee gets an SMS with a download link at registration, and your employer can print it too.
ESIC's Citizens' Charter sets 7 days for sickness benefit, 14 days for maternity, 30 days for disablement and unemployment allowance, and 90 days for dependants' benefit. Sickness, disablement and maternity claims can be filed on the IP Portal, where the status also shows.
