About DGFT

DGFT, the Directorate General of Foreign Trade under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, runs the portal that importers and exporters cannot avoid. The Importer-Exporter Code, without which no business can legally import or export, is issued here.

Traders also use it for advance authorisations, EPCG licences, RoDTEP and other export incentive claims, and for annual IEC updation. Scheme application deadlines and the annual IEC update window bring its busiest stretches.

If DGFT isn't working

Wait and retry, especially near deadlines Close to due dates DGFT is overloaded. Wait a few minutes and retry rather than refreshing constantly.
Check your login and OTP Make sure your registered mobile and email are correct, wait for the OTP for a minute, and do not request many at once.
Try another browser and clear cache Government portals can be browser-sensitive. Try another browser or an incognito window, and clear the cache if a page is stuck.
File before the last day Where you can, use DGFT a day or two before the deadline, when it is far less loaded.
Check the live status above If many people are reporting DGFT right now, it is a wider problem and not just you.

Other ways to access DGFT

Try in off-peak hours DGFT is much faster late at night or early morning, away from deadline-day load.
Use the app if there is one If DGFT has an official app, it can work when the website is busy, and the other way round.
Use a facilitation or help centre For some services a common service centre or facilitation desk can complete the work when the portal is down for you.

Close to due dates, importers, exporters and their consultants use DGFT together, so the portal slows down or errors out for a while. It is the load, and it usually eases outside peak hours.

Near scheme deadlines the portal is heavily loaded and DSC-based steps can fail. Keep your IEC and digital signature ready, wait a little, and retry, ideally before the last day.

A missing OTP is usually a load or network issue. Wait a minute before requesting another, check your registered mobile and email, and switch between Wi-Fi and mobile data.
