About PayPal India

PayPal's Indian footprint is narrower than the brand suggests. Since April 2021 it has not processed domestic payments between Indian buyers and sellers, and what it does here is entirely cross-border.

What remains matters a great deal to a specific group, freelancers, exporters and small studios who invoice overseas clients and need the money landing in an Indian bank account. The local entity is PayPal Payments Private Limited, which the RBI cleared in-principle during 2025 to work as a cross-border payment aggregator for exports.

If PayPal India isn't working

Check it is not the India restriction Domestic payments inside India were withdrawn in 2021. A payment to an Indian seller failing is the service by design, not a fault.
Login trouble Try a different browser or an incognito window before resetting anything. Repeated failed attempts can trigger a temporary lock on the account.
Withdrawal not arriving Allow a few working days for cross-border settlement and check the account for a notice asking for documents, which is a common hold.
Ignore any phone number claiming to be support There is no Indian helpline. Support starts inside the account, and numbers found in search results are almost always fraudulent.

Use the app if the site is failing The mobile app and the website sometimes fail separately, so it is worth trying the other one before waiting.
Ask the client to hold the payment For an invoice that will not process, having the sender wait avoids a duplicate transfer that then needs unwinding.
Keep a second route for receiving money Freelancers taking overseas payments are safer with an alternative cross-border option set up in advance.
Escalate to the nodal officer The verified PayPal India contact details include the nodal officer's address and note that no phone helpline exists.
