About NCRB
Before buying a used car or bike, you can pull a free vehicle NOC from the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB). It shows whether the vehicle is listed as stolen or involved in a crime. NCRB, set up in 1986 under the Ministry of Home Affairs, runs this through its Central Citizen Services portal, along with missing person search and the list of proclaimed offenders.
NCRB also publishes the yearly Crime in India report on ncrb.gov.in and oversees CCTNS, the network that links police stations across the country.

NCRB runs two separate sites. Reports and publications sit on ncrb.gov.in, while vehicle NOC and missing person search run on digitalpolicecitizenservices.gov.in. A fault on one does not always touch the other.
If the NOC page fails for everyone, wait and try later. Keep the vehicle's registration, chassis and engine numbers ready.

- Check whether the vehicle is listed in any crime or theft record.
- Generate and download the NOC.
Yes. NCRB charges nothing for the vehicle NOC or its other Central Citizen Services. Do not send a request by email, or by post with a postal order. NCRB says such requests are not processed and the money is not refunded.
Open Missing Person Search on the Central Citizen Services portal. It matches your search against a national database of unidentified persons and recovered dead bodies reported by police, often with photos. This saves visits to police stations, shelters and mortuaries.
Go to Publications on ncrb.gov.in. NCRB publishes Crime in India, Accidental Deaths and Suicides in India, Prison Statistics India and Finger Prints in India each year, with 2024 the latest edition. Each year's data opens from the year-wise list.
