Check the Gemini reports on this page: a sharp rise from users across India means the problem is on Google's side. Google's Workspace Status Dashboard also lists Gemini and shows confirmed incidents.
If many people are reporting it here, Google has an outage and only waiting helps. If it is just you, check whether you have hit your usage limit, which refreshes every 5 hours up to a weekly cap, and whether your account can use Gemini.
Google says this message at sign-in means your account cannot access Gemini at the moment. It can depend on location, age or the type of account, and Google's advice is to try again later.
Open Gmail or another Google service. If that sign-in also fails, the problem is your Google Account, not Gemini. A work account needs a qualifying Workspace edition, and a school account needs its administrator to turn Gemini on.
You may have reached your usage limit. Gemini's limits depend on the model, the features and the length of the chat, and they refresh every 5 hours until the weekly limit is reached. On a Google AI plan you can carry on the chat with Flash-Lite after hitting the limit, and the plan raises the limits too.
