If Steam isn't working

Look at Steam Server Status Valve's Steam Server Status page, or timeouts on every Steam site, point to a system-wide outage. Then there is nothing to fix on your side.
Test with a wired connection Wireless and powerline links can make Steam drop now and then. Plug in a cable if you can, and run an internet speed test.
Allow Steam through the firewall A firewall can block Steam after a fresh install or a Steam update, even if it worked before. Add Steam to its allowed list.
Close programs that interfere Disable or uninstall background programs that stop Steam connecting, and scan the PC for viruses and spyware.
Check the live status on this page If many players in India are reporting Steam right now, the problem is Valve's. Try again in a few hours.

Maintenance clears by itself, and Valve suggests waiting a few hours before trying again.
