About RuPay

RuPay is India's own card payment network, run by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI). Over 1,100 banks issue RuPay debit, credit and prepaid cards, in Classic, Platinum and Select variants. The network works at ATMs, on card machines and online.

RuPay credit cards can also be linked to UPI apps for scan-and-pay. The card itself, its PIN, limits and blocking are always handled by the bank that issued it.

Compare with other banks If cardholders of many banks report at once, the RuPay network has a problem. If only your bank is listed, it is the bank.
Wait out a PIN block After three wrong PINs the card unblocks the next day on its own.
Resend the OTP If the OTP is late, wait a minute and tap Resend OTP. If it still does not arrive, tell your bank.
Check UPI linking A RuPay credit card has to be linked in your UPI app before it can pay there.

Cardholders log RuPay problems here, and we also check the RuPay site live. Reports from many banks' customers together point to a network-wide outage. If only one bank's cards fail, the fault is with that bank.

When users of many banks report failures together, the RuPay network is facing a technical issue. Wait and retry.

When only your card fails, the cause sits with your bank or the merchant: a blocked card, a wrong PIN, a missing OTP, or online use switched off. Call the bank on the number printed on the card.

First check that the card is linked in your UPI app, then retry. If the problem stays, call your bank on the number on the card. For a debit with no payment made, complain in your UPI app or on NPCI's UPI Help portal.

The bank blocks the card for security after three wrong PINs. RuPay says it unblocks automatically the next day. If it does not, contact the bank that issued the card.

The bank normally credits the amount back within 24 hours. If it does not, contact your card-issuing bank's branch. NPCI's Register a Complaint page also accepts ATM complaints.

Yes for ATMs and card machines. For online shopping, RuPay asks for an OTP in place of the PIN. A contactless tap above Rs 5,000 also needs the PIN.
