Merchants who accept the card are handled by an entirely separate desk with its own number and mailbox, so a shopkeeper whose terminal is refusing Amex should not be calling the cardmember line.

Written correspondence goes to the Gurgaon office. Amex will never ask for your card number, CVV or a one time password on an inbound call, and since the card is a common target for spoofed calls, hanging up and dialling the number on the back of the card is always the safer move.
